How to renew your Texas vehicle registration
Your sticker expires on the last day of the month printed on it. You can renew up to 90 days early, and it only takes a few minutes online.
Have these ready
- Proof of current Texas liability insurance.
- A passing emissions test from the last 90 days, if your county requires one.
- Your renewal notice or license plate number, and a card to pay.
- No unpaid toll holds or other blocks on the vehicle.

Check your county

Renew online, by mail or in person
Online is fastest. You can also mail your renewal notice or visit your county tax assessor-collector's office. TxDMV: register your vehicle

Put the new sticker on
Your sticker arrives by mail after online or mail renewal. Place it on the inside of your windshield and remove the old one.

If you're already late
Driving on an expired registration becomes an offense after the fifth working day. Renew as soon as you can; a judge can dismiss the charge for a fee of up to $20 if you renew quickly.
