Texas car registration fees in 2026
What you'll pay to register or renew a vehicle in Texas: the state base fee, your county's add-on, and the small processing charge — with the official fee chart linked.
The short version
- Base fee: $50.75 a year for most cars and light trucks.
- County fee: usually $10–$11.50, up to $21.50 in a few counties.
- Your exact total is printed on your renewal notice — it already includes your county's fees.

| Trailer, 6,000 lbs. or less | $45.00 |
Your county's add-on
Counties can add local fees — mostly a road and bridge fee of up to $10 and a child safety fee of up to $1.50. A handful of counties add a transportation project fee on top. Some examples for 2026:
